IX Leopoldo García-Colín Mexican Meeting on Mathematical and Experimental Physics

The IX Leopoldo García-Colín Mexican Meeting on Mathematical and Experimental Physics was first held in September 2001, fostered by a group of professors of the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana (UAM), Iztapalapa Campus, in collaboration with El Colegio Nacional to set up a forum where promising areas of research in Physics can be presented and discussed. The main objective is to open new lines of research for young Mexican scientists and bright graduate students and foster international collaboration. Topics The Meeting will take place over the whole week. It consists of three parallel Symposia, including one each for the fields of Quantum Technologies, Gravitation & Cosmology, and Experimental Physics, five super-plenary lectures, and around twenty invited talks in each Symposium. The event will be held in the beautiful colonial building of El Colegio Nacional. Also in La Casa de la Primera Imprenta. Both located in the heart of Mexico’s City colonial section downtown.
Leopoldo García-Colín Scherer
Leopoldo García-Colín Scherer (27 November 1930, in Mexico City – 8 October 2012, in Mexico City) was a Mexican scientist specialized in Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics who received the National Prize for Arts and Sciences in 1988.
He was a member of The National College, a former president of the Mexican Society of Physics (SMF, 1972–1973) and has received honorary degrees from several universities, including the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM).
Alfredo Raúl Luis Macías Álvarez: In memorian
Professor Alfredo Macías (1958-2024) earned his Ph.D. in Physics in 1991 under the supervision of Heinz Dehnen and Octavio Obregón at the Universidad Aut\’onoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus. Starting in 2009, he held the designation of National Researcher Level III, with a prolific academic output of over 200 publications, including nearly 100 articles, book chapters, books, edited books, conference proceedings, and educational publications. Additionally, he led 15 research projects, delivered around 100 lectures, and organized more than 30 events, whith the Leopoldo García-Colín Mexican Meeting on Mathematical and Experimental Physics among them. Throughout his academic career, he supervised several doctoral and postdoctoral theses, contributing to the training of a new generation of researchers. He was the founding President of the Gravitational and Mathematical Physics Division of the Mexican Physical Society (1992-1994) and a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences since 1997. He also served on the International Coordinating Committee of the Marcel Grossmann Meeting from 2002 and was a member of the jury for the 2013 Mexico Prize. He chaired the “Scalar Fields in Cosmology” parallel session at the Marcel Grossmann Meeting in Rome, Italy, in 2015 and 2018. In 2008, he was recognized as an Outstanding Referee by the American Physical Society (APS) and established a collaboration agreement with the International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics (ICRA, Italy) and UAM (Mexico). He also participated as an evaluator in CONACYT calls, such as “CONACYT-DAAD Scholarships” (2007 and 2008) and “Bicentennial Scholarships Abroad CONACYT 2010” and served as a referee for prestigious international journals including Physical Review Letters, Physical Review D, Classical and Quantum Gravity, Advances in Space Research, European Physical Journal C, and Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, among others. In 2008, he was invited to the CONACYT-DAAD Roadshow.

The IX Leopoldo García-Colín Mexican Meeting on Mathematical and Experimental Physics will take place at two emblematic venues in Mexico City’s Historic Center.
