They are lightweight, strong, and stable. These features render them useful in countless applications. Unfortunately, these attributes also contribute to the accumulation of persistent plastic waste in the environment. While polyolefins can be mechanically recycled, often this results in an inferior product and is in part the reason that only a small percentage of polyolefin products are effectively recycled. We have embarked on an effort to prepare polyolefins with functional groups at their chain ends. These telechelic polyolefins can be stitched together to form high molar mass plastics and thermosets. By virtue of the synthetic pathway used to make these materials, we generate products that include weak links along the backbones of the polymer chains. These links can be chemically cleaved to quantitatively deconstruct the material and allow for efficient chemical recycling back to the starting telechelic polymers that can be subsequently repolymerized. Our approach takes advantage of a tandem catalysis strategy that is perfectly atom economic and readily scalable. In this lecture I will discuss the preparation of the telechelic polyolefins and their use in the preparation of degradable polyolefin-based plastics and thermosets. I will also report on their materials properties, scalability, and recyclability.

Plenary Speakers

    Contributions

Rodrigo Sánchez García

                Department of Physics, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa

                Applying microrheological approaches to granular media

                View Details

Pedro Díaz-Leyva

                Department of Physics, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa

                What can a minimal Yukawa model say about rhombic–triangular coexistence in gravity-confined charged colloids?

                View Details

César A. The talk will address the fabrication of gold nanomaterials (Au-NMs) with various morphologies, ranging from isolated nanoparticles to thin films [2]. Characterization using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), profilometry, and UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed that the substrate and the local refractive index are the primary determinants of film continuity and plasmonic resonance frequency. The thicknesses of the Au-NMs were determined to be precisely controlled within the range of 8 ± 4 to 58 ± 8 nm. The research includes the study of the optical response of these Au-NMs via computational electromagnetics simulations (SCUFF-EM) to analyze the near-field electric amplification effect (E/E₀). Using these Au-NMs, the effect on anthracene and formaldehyde, two well-known atmospheric pollutants, was investigated. The results indicate that the field distributions induce an increase in the radiative rate (kr) observed in time-resolved fluorescence measurements, and that the NM is also capable of exerting an electrochemical effect on formaldehyde molecules [3,4]. The study aimed to outline routes for the development of miniaturized analytical architectures utilizing NMs, which is essential for advancing the in situ detection of analytes in accordance with environmental monitoring requirements.

[1] S. That is the reason why ion-batteries’ performance remains an active area for research, to improve the performance of any battery at any application, because there are differences between batteries for heart peace-markers, cell phones or drilling tools. Being focused on the batteries used in electric vehicles, the researchers in our group explore diverse compounds with perovskite-type structures (e.g., CaSnO3, SrZnO3, EuFeO3, GdTiO3, LaTiO3, etc.) that can serve as electrodes or electrolytes in such batteries. One subgroup investigates those compounds by means of numerical calculations in the framework of the Density Functional Theory. Another subgroup search for energy harvesting systems which allow to store energy in perovskite-based devices, being that energy harvested from the wind, mechanical processes, heat or static reflective-refractive systems. Finally, a third subgroup evaluates the performance of the harvesting/conversion/supply process by means of fuzzy controller management of the harvesting process. La₂O₃ and Nb₂O₅ were added in equal weight proportions at x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 wt.% of each oxide (corresponding to total oxide additions of 0, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 wt.%, respectively), and the resulting compositions were denoted as BT–xLN. The dopants were introduced by high-energy mechanical milling, followed by sintering at 1300 °C for 4 h. X-ray diffraction, Rietveld refinement, Raman spectroscopy, high-resolution scanning electron microscopy, density and porosity measurements, dielectric spectroscopy, and polarization–electric field characterization were employed. The undoped and BT–0.5LN samples retained the clearest tetragonal distortion, with c/a ratios of 1.007 and 1.011, respectively, whereas higher dopant contents produced a pseudocubic-like average structure. Moderate La/Nb addition reduced grain size, improved densification, and promoted a more homogeneous microstructure. Consequently, the BT–0.5LN composition exhibited the highest relative permittivity, approximately 3700 at 10 kHz, together with a Curie temperature near 103 °C, a maximum polarization of approximately 10.0 μC cm⁻², and the highest remanent polarization of 2.7 μC cm⁻². Further dopant addition resulted in submicrometric grains, increased porosity, reduced tetragonal distortion, and suppressed dielectric and ferroelectric responses. The observed behavior indicates that the electrical properties are governed by the coupled evolution of lattice distortion, crystallite and grain size, and porosity rather than by dopant concentration alone. These results identify BT–0.5LN as an effective compositional window for balancing densification, microstructural homogeneity, tetragonal-phase stability, and electrical performance in BaTiO₃-based functional ceramics." data-bio="More about this speaker soon">
                View Details

Julieta Mateos

                United Imaging Healthcare

                The Physics of Measuring Brain Structure: From MRI to Quantitative Characterization

                View Details

        ×

Abstract

Biography

.speakers-section{
    padding:90px 20px;
    background:rgba(230,228,205,.55);
    backdrop-filter:blur(3px);
}

.section-title{
    text-align:center;
    font-family:"Times New Roman", Times, serif;
    font-size:3rem;
    color:#550527;
    margin-bottom:60px;
}

.speaker-grid{
    display:grid;
    grid-template-columns:repeat(auto-fit,minmax(300px,1fr));
    gap:35px;
    max-width:1400px;
    margin:auto;
}

.speaker-card{
    background:white;
    border-radius:22px;
    padding:35px;
    box-shadow:0 12px 30px rgba(0,0,0,.08);
    transition:.35s;
    border-top:6px solid #D78521;
    display:flex;
    flex-direction:column;
    align-items:center;
}

.speaker-card:hover{
    transform:translateY(-8px);
    box-shadow:0 18px 45px rgba(0,0,0,.15);
}

.speaker-photo{
    width:130px;
    height:130px;
    border-radius:50%;
    object-fit:cover;
    display:block;
    margin:auto;
    border:5px solid #69725E;
}

.speaker-card h3{
    margin-top:20px;
    text-align:center;
    font-family:"Times New Roman", Times, serif;
    color:#221D23;
}

.institution{
    text-align:center;
    font-style:italic;
    color:#69725E;
    margin-bottom:18px;
}

.talk-title{
    text-align:center;
    color:#550527;
    font-size:1.1rem;
    min-height:60px;
}

/* Button replaces
— same look, now triggers the modal instead of inline expansion */
.view-details-btn{
    cursor:pointer;
    background:#69725E;
    color:white;
    padding:12px 24px;
    border:none;
    border-radius:10px;
    text-align:center;
    font-weight:bold;
    font-size:1rem;
    margin-top:20px;
    transition:background .25s;
}

.view-details-btn:hover{
    background:#550527;
}

/* ---------- CONTRIBUTIONS BANNER ---------- */

.contributions-banner{
    background:#550527;
    padding:28px 20px;
    text-align:center;
}

.contributions-banner span{
    font-family:"Times New Roman", Times, serif;
    font-size:2.2rem;
    letter-spacing:1px;
    color:#F4F1EA;
}

/* ---------- MODAL ---------- */

.speaker-modal-overlay{
    display:none;
    position:fixed;
    inset:0;
    background:rgba(34,29,35,.6);
    backdrop-filter:blur(4px);
    z-index:1000;
    align-items:center;
    justify-content:center;
    padding:20px;
}

.speaker-modal-overlay.open{
    display:flex;
}

.speaker-modal{
    background:#fff;
    border-radius:22px;
    padding:45px;
    max-width:560px;
    width:100%;
    max-height:85vh;
    overflow-y:auto;
    position:relative;
    border-top:6px solid #D78521;
    box-shadow:0 25px 60px rgba(0,0,0,.3);
    animation:modalPop .25s ease;
}

@keyframes modalPop{
    from{ opacity:0; Their analysis in electrophysiological experiments provides valuable information on the synaptic dynamics of cortical neurons under both physiological and pathological conditions [1,2]. Physiological signals have been shown to exhibit fractal properties, characterized by long-range correlations and 1/f type power spectra (pink noise), which have been associated with homeostatic mechanisms and may be linked to chaotic dynamics described by random matrix theory [3–5]. The analysis of physiological signals exhibiting 1/f noise is based on three fundamental measures: the Hurst exponent (H) which quantifies long-range correlation structure; the correlation dimension (D) which provides information about the underlying organization of the dynamics; and the correlation dimension (C) which allows for the discrimination between deterministic behavior and stochastic processes [6]. In this work simulated miniature postsynaptic currents modeled as time series are analyzed to characterize their complexity from a dynamical systems perspective. We present the computational framework that reproduces in silico an experiment involving in neurons. The biophysical model incorporates the properties of the neuronal membrane and excitatory synapses with physiologically relevant kinetic parameters, as experimentally implemented using the Patch-Clamp technique [7]. The different conditions of synaptic activity observed in vivo are emulated under two regimes of presynaptic stimulation: random and correlated. Subsequently, long range values obtained from the power spectral density (PSD) are used to characterize mPSC, while assessing and accounting for the possible presence of 1/f behavior.
